DRAFT EU “CASE GREEN” DIRECTIVE. THE ROLE OF THE EGE IS INCREASINGLY CENTRAL IN THE ENERGY PERFORMANCE OF BUILDINGS.
In Italy, there has been widespread concern about the draft EU “Green Homes” Directive, an update of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive – EPBD.
The directive aims to reduce the pollution generated by buildings, as these are responsible for over a third of greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union and 75% of them are energy inefficient. According to the European Commission, reducing these emissions is a key step to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
The objective, therefore, is to reduce the environmental impact, only the last step towards tangible sustainability which has already been substantiated, among others, since December 2009 by a UNI-CEI 11339 standard with which the EGE certification was introduced which , a few years later, with Legislative Decree no. 102/2014, has acquired further importance, to the point that now large companies, every 4 years, have the obligation to “employ” qualified individuals such as EGE -Energy Management Experts- to carry out energy diagnoses.
Precisely because the purpose of the EGE activity is to improve energy efficiency through intelligent and rational energy management, it is clear that even Smart Buildings, especially in the Tertiary/Commercial sector, and their technologies (Building devices and solutions , Automation technologies, Control and management platforms, Connectivity) impact on the work of the EGE.
Taking into account buildings are responsible for about 40% of energy consumption and produce 36% of all CO2 emissions in the EU, EGEs are identified among the main market operators promoting the technological, social and environmental transformation that is affecting the buildings of our cities.
