WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM: ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND EGE, THE KEY SKILLS OF THE FUTURE
Technological change, geopolitical fragmentation, economic uncertainty, demographic shifts, and ecological transition are among the major factors that, individually and in combination, will transform the global labor market by 2030. 22% of current employment will undergo structural change between 2025 and 2030, with a net growth of 78 million jobs. However, 39 percent of current skills will be transformed or surpassed by the end of the decade. (*)
Among the most in-demand skills are analytical thinking, resilience, flexibility, leadership and social influence. In addition, the green transition is driving a growing demand for professions related to environmental sustainability, including renewable energy engineers, electric and autonomous vehicle specialists, and environmental engineers. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs 2025 Report, Environmental Management, for the first time, enters the top ten fastest growing skills.
In this context, the Energy Management Expert (EGE) assumes a key role. EGE certification, which complies with the UNI CEI 11339:2023 standard, attests to the skills needed to efficiently manage energy in companies and organizations, contributing to the optimization of consumption and the reduction of environmental impact. With the increasing focus on sustainability and climate change mitigation, the figure of the EGE becomes strategic for both businesses and public administrations.
The skills of the certified EGE range from energy diagnosis to the management of monitoring systems, from the evaluation of efficiency measures to knowledge of energy and environmental regulations. The high level of specialization of these professionals not only meets the growing market demand, but also represents a key asset for companies that want to remain competitive in a changing economic environment.
Certification of competencies: a guarantee of quality
To ensure the reliability and quality of their skills, Energy Management Experts must obtain certification from an accredited third-party body, such as RICEC International. This process certifies that the professional possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to perform at the highest level in the field of energy efficiency.
RICEC International is distinguished by a fast, clear and customized certification pathway that enables candidates to achieve certification in less than 30 days. With its expertise, RICEC offers comprehensive support in requirements gathering and competency validation. In addition, continuous monitoring of certified skills ensures that professionals keep their knowledge up-to-date, thus responding to regulatory and technological changes in the industry
With 85 percent of employers intent on investing in upskilling and reskilling in the coming years, skills certification becomes a key element in addressing labor market transformations. Thus, the preparation and qualification of EGEs not only ensure employment opportunities for EGE professionals, but also offer a concrete contribution to the energy transition and global sustainability.
