ISO 45001 CERTIFICATION: REDUCING BUSINESS RISK AND GROWING AUDITOR VALUE

The results of a study conducted by Accredia and INAIL were presented showing a positive correlation between accredited certification of occupational health and safety management systems and a reduction in business risk.

According to the research, companies certified according to the international standard UNI EN ISO 45001:2023 “Management Systems for Occupational Health and Safety,” experienced a lower incidence of occupational accidents during the period 2017-2021. Data from Accredia and INAIL showed an average decrease of 22.6 percent in occupational accidents in certified enterprises, with significant variations among different economic sectors. In particular, in the chemical sector, the reduction was up to 40.9 percent.

Certified enterprises also reported lower accident severity, with an average decrease of 29.2 percent. These results are particularly relevant in high-
risk such as building construction.

Today the figure of the Auditor/Lead Auditor for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems is a central figure within a certification process because in his hands resides a not inconsiderable responsibility and will and must therefore be a fundamental “tool” in this change, assuming more and more value.

The certifications issued by Ricec International, a national and international body accredited by Accredia, are an important curricular enhancement and a distinctive element in the competitive perspective of the world of work and assurance towards companies.
